I agree with what xXMoreWithinXx said about the man's death and the love between them dying. For me that really worked and I liked it a lot.
Since you seem to have enjoyed what she (?) told you, what she thought about your poem, I thought, you might enjoy if I did the same So: It kind of reminded me of the Beatles song "I wanna hold your hand" in the sense that, wanting to hold someone's hand within itself can be a strong image. On the other hand refusing to hold someone's hand while he/she is dying is a strong image for me too. I personally for myself, indeed, could only justify it for the sake of saving my own life. It's this contrast between the two extremes that made this poem work for me. It illustrates for me what it sometimes can take decide to let go, even of things you know aren't "healthy" for you, and at the same time what letting go of them means to yourself.
Great work!
